EMPOWER

Outreach activities for Black and minority ethnic young people that expose, explore, and inspire aspirational futures!

Students of Black and minority ethnic heritage are underrepresented in higher education, most starkly in the Humanities. It’s time for change. Our outreach activities for Black and minority ethnic students are aimed to inspire and empower young people to make the right choice for their future.

Here you'll find a brief overview of the outreach activities available:

  • Black Humanities Project: A student-led initiative inspiring young minority ethnic students to study humanities at university whilst championing more diversity in curriculums.
  • Insight2Uni: an e-mentoring programme for black-heritage year 12 students run in partnership with With Insight Education
  • Heritage & Cultural Diversity Forum: A partnership that provides meaningful and relevant opportunities for young minority ethnic students to be heard, to question, and to challenge the preconceptions of education, training, and careers.

The overall aim of these activitie is to support the UEA's commitment to increase the proportion of black and minority ethnic undergraduate home students to 25% by 2025, specifically within humanities.
